Ephesians 2:17-22 NIV

'He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.'

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

This passage offers us a profound and liberating truth: that the Church is not a building, nor merely an organisation, and certainly not confined by denomination or structure. The Church is something far deeper — it is spiritual, eternal, and alive. It is the Body of Christ, a people drawn together by faith in Jesus and united by the Holy Spirit.

We are no longer strangers or outsiders. Regardless of our backgrounds or denominational affiliations, if we have access to the Father through Christ, then we are part of the same household — a family. Paul doesn’t speak of us as visitors, but as fellow citizens, fully belonging with God’s people.

This unity brings with it something powerful. When we gather in harmony, we become — not just individuals — but a holy temple in the Lord. Yes, God dwells in each of us individually, but when we are united in love and truth, something greater takes place: we become a dwelling place of His Spirit. His presence rests upon us corporately in a unique way.

This truth elevates our understanding of church gatherings. When we come together in one heart and one purpose, God’s presence is manifested among us more fully. There is a fresh authority, a deeper peace, a clearer sense of His voice.

So let us not allow division or difference to define us. Let us not look on one another as strangers simply because we come from different traditions. Rather, let us remember: we are one family in Christ, joined together, being built into a spiritual house where God Himself is pleased to dwell.

Amen.
